The Okta Access Gateway's optional pass-through authentication feature is vulnerable as it accepts user identity from an unvalidated HTTP header, potentially allowing unauthenticated users to initiate sessions with arbitrary identity values. This could lead to unauthorized access in environments lacking proper header sanitization and enforcement. Organizations utilizing Okta Access Gateway with this feature enabled should prioritize remediation to mitigate the risk of unauthorized access.

Original NVD Description

The Okta Access Gateway includes an optional pass-through authentication source that accepts user identity from a client-supplied HTTP header without cryptographic validation. In architectures where this optional source is enabled without an upstream reverse proxy or firewall configured to sanitize and enforce client headers, an unauthenticated user can supply an arbitrary identity value to initiate a session.
