CyberRota Analysis

AI-Generated

The vulnerability allows local attackers to exploit a symlink-following flaw in the Extractor.extract() function, enabling them to write arbitrary files by pre-placing symlinks at known output paths. This can lead to the overwriting of sensitive files and may facilitate privilege escalation or code execution in shared-cache environments. Organizations using affected versions should prioritize patching to mitigate potential risks associated with this vulnerability.

Original NVD Description

Datasets through 5.00, fixed in commit ad2d853, contains a symlink-following vulnerability in Extractor.extract() that allows local attackers to write arbitrary files by pre-planting symlinks at predictable output paths. Attackers can redirect archive extraction to arbitrary filesystem locations in shared-cache environments, enabling overwrite of sensitive files and potential privilege escalation or code execution.
